While they recognize it as a disease on the same level as other physical diseases, not much is done for treating it. MENDOZA, Argentina – Despu\u00e9s de vivir el incidente m\u00e1s horrible de mi vida, no pod\u00eda imaginar volver a ser feliz. Una depresi\u00f3n muy fuerte se apoder\u00f3 de m\u00ed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoy lucho para sensibilizar sobre la salud mental y el suicidio. Cada ma\u00f1ana, desde hace seis a\u00f1os, me paro en las calles de mi ciudad para motivar a los dem\u00e1s. Nunca esper\u00e9 que mis acciones impactaran a tanta gente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El d\u00eda que mi vida termin\u00f3<\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

De chico, ayudaba a mi madre a vender boletos de rifa por el barrio. A los seis a\u00f1os ya se me daba bien, llamaba a las puertas y vend\u00eda boletos con una gran sonrisa. Funcionaba bien. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un d\u00eda toque la que yo llamo la puerta equivocada, en esta trabajaba un violador que decidi\u00f3, al verme, meterme dentro de su casa y violarme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ese d\u00eda me fui a casa y no habl\u00e9 de eso. Tard\u00e9 a\u00f1os en hablar de lo ocurrido sin quebrarme. Me sent\u00eda incapaz de decir las palabras y lloraba. Despu\u00e9s me aisl\u00e9 durante mucho tiempo. Mis d\u00edas parec\u00edan interminablemente grises. Llevaba conmigo lo sucedido a todas partes. Descuid\u00e9 por completo mi salud mental, que empeor\u00f3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Con el tiempo, me fui a Estados Unidos de adulto. Cuando volv\u00ed a Argentina, las cosas me parecieron diferentes. El pa\u00eds hab\u00eda cambiado con respecto a aquel en el que crec\u00ed. La gente que antes era feliz parec\u00eda llena de tristeza. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Me sent\u00ed desamparado y mi depresi\u00f3n se agrav\u00f3. Comet\u00ed el error de alejar a los que me rodeaban. Hablar de salud mental suele ser tab\u00fa. No cre\u00eda que nadie pudiera ayudarme o comprenderme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salir de la oscuridad<\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Un d\u00eda la canci\u00f3n que uno de mis sobrinos me hab\u00eda escrito me despert\u00f3 y sac\u00f3 completamente de esa etapa de mi vida. La letra hablaba sobre alguien que, luego de haber atravesado una infancia muy dura y complicada, como la que tuve yo, lograba salir adelante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Me sent\u00ed escuchado, visto y menos solo en ese momento. Nunca imagin\u00e9 que la m\u00fasica pudiera tener un efecto tan fuerte en m\u00ed, pero ah\u00ed estaba, llorando ante las hermosas palabras que se cantaban. En ese momento supe lo que quer\u00eda de la vida. Quer\u00eda hacer sonre\u00edr a la gente. Reflexion\u00e9 mucho sobre lo que hab\u00eda pasado hasta entonces en mi vida. Me pareci\u00f3 vital volver a luchar por m\u00ed mismo. Ahora, mi objetivo es ser la voz de los que no la tienen. Trabajo para enviar un mensaje de esperanza incluso en los peores momentos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Para el primer d\u00eda sumergi\u00e9ndome en esta nueva aventura me vest\u00ed con el traje de mi casamiento veinte a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s, cre\u00eda que me dar\u00eda suerte. Yo deseaba que la gente viera el cartel y lo que dec\u00eda, no quer\u00eda que creyeran que me acercaba para pedir algo, tampoco que me consideraran uno m\u00e1s haci\u00e9ndolo. Como primera experiencia no fue algo sencillo. Ten\u00eda miedo de pararme frente a la gente en medio de la calle, me aterraba el rechazo, sin embargo, ese lunes a las 7:30 am cualquiera pod\u00eda verme vestido de traje sosteniendo un cartel que dec\u00eda \u201cSonr\u00edan porque est\u00e1n vivos, por eso hoy puede ser un hermoso d\u00eda\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ser noticia y voz de los sin voz<\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cuando inicie esto quer\u00eda probarlo durante solo dos meses para ver qu\u00e9 suced\u00eda y c\u00f3mo lo recib\u00eda la gente. Todav\u00eda sigo haci\u00e9ndolo y han pasado seis a\u00f1os desde aquel primer cartel. Mirar las filas de autom\u00f3viles en medio del tr\u00e1fico y no ver m\u00e1s que sonrisas me llena de alegr\u00eda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aunque no fue f\u00e1cil ese d\u00eda pas\u00f3 algo que nunca habr\u00eda imaginado, una chica me sac\u00f3 una foto que mando al momento a un diario local. Al d\u00eda siguiente vi esa misma foto junto a un t\u00edtulo que lograba reflejar el prop\u00f3sito que ten\u00eda mi vida desde hace muchos a\u00f1os: ser un motivador. Dicho titular dec\u00eda \u201cel motivador del nudo vial\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aunque volv\u00ed a ser un hombre optimista que ama la vida, no siempre fue as\u00ed. Viv\u00ed momentos horribles e intent\u00e9 suicidarme nueve veces. Sin embargo, sigo vivo, luchando y feliz. Hoy me siento optimista. Quiero ser una voz constante para la gente, para recordarles que aunque la vida tiene una forma de derribarnos, somos mucho m\u00e1s que nuestro pasado. Las personas cambiamos y evolucionamos constantemente. Lo que elegimos hacer con el \u00abahora\u00bb importa. Para m\u00ed lo es todo si mis palabras curan a una persona. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concientizaci\u00f3n y charlas TED<\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hemos podido recaudar dinero y ayudar a causas y comedores comunitarios, adem\u00e1s de abrir nuevas escuelas y lo m\u00e1s reciente: viajar a Espa\u00f1a para dar una charla TED<\/a> sobre aquello que me permiti\u00f3 llegar a donde estoy hoy en d\u00eda, despu\u00e9s de haber vivido una infancia complicada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mi objetivo es concientizar sobre el suicidio, el acoso y la violencia. Quiero ense\u00f1ar a los dem\u00e1s la importancia de hablar de salud mental. Eliminar el estigma y liberar a los dem\u00e1s se convierte en mi objetivo m\u00e1s importante. Espero poder organizar m\u00e1s charlas de este tipo en otras ciudades y pa\u00edses del mundo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
