Establishing the International Media Broadcasting Corporation – Full Proposal

The Fragility of Democracy
A recent report highlights a stark decline in global democracy over the past four decades. The degree of democracy enjoyed by the average world citizen is back to 1986 levels and more than 75% percent of the world’s population, 6 billion people, now live under authoritarian rule.
During his first term US President Donald Trump tested and eroded democratic norms undermining trust in elections, encouraging political violence and attacking the press and public servants alike. And true to his word, has followed through on his promise to be an authoritarian dictator in his current administration. Trump has undermined the world order in its entirety and inflicted more harm to America in his first 100 days since the inauguration of his current administration than in the four years of his last
presidency.
Now unleashed for his second term, Americans are realizing that anything can happen, because when authoritarians have the power, they can and will do whatever they want. Like many authoritarian autocrats, Trump ignores facts, appeals to emotions and deliberately fuels a world of misinformation. Rule number one of the authoritarian playbooks is to divide the populace, say whatever voters want to hear to vote for him and execute all the steps autocratic leaders have historically and successfully deployed
to get to power. History has proven; autocrats will cling to power at any cost and keep at it unless and until they are stopped by either its citizens, the courts or both.
As history has shown, whether we are talking about governments or agencies or the press, these institutions are very, very fragile and, in the blink of an eye, easy to dismantle. Institutions that once protected public interest can turn against it in an instant. Disinformation, and the networks that sustain it, will continue to prop up authoritarian administrations because even the very worst policies can be spun to sound right in a world of manufactured realities.
The earthquake we have all endured within our online media ecosystem is and will lead to even more catastrophic consequences if we don’t do something about it. We must grab back the megaphone; one which is inaccessible to corruption so we can defend freedom and democracy and the values most of us cherish.
The Time for Challenging Current Media Trends is Here and Now!
Countries long ago established national nonprofit broadcasting stations for the development of a shared consciousness, identity and to promote their talent and culture. In Australia it is known as ABC, in the UK it is called the BBC, in Canada it is recognized as the CBC and in the United States it is more commonly known as NPR to name a few.
Since we live in an interdependent digital world, it’s time to establish a nonprofit International Media Broadcasting Corporation for the specific benefit of humanity and appealing to all of us who share common democratic values. To create a sense of unity and common purpose in our shared values which, in themselves, are far bigger than any political or theological conviction.
Ever since the advent of the internet, I’ve believed in a global media platform that upholds journalistic standards to combat misinformation. As a matter of fact, I invested millions, neither for profit or power, but rather for the benefit of humanity or, more simply, any man, woman or child who (I believe) has the sovereign right to be heard and shares the values for the pursuit of a fair and free society.
My most recent attempt at achieving this goal, more commonly known as Orato World Media, is a first-person news site, reporting true stories from real people, in the first-person. Our journalists rigorously verify every story, ensuring our readers get firsthand, unfiltered truth of a reported newsworthy event as experienced by a real person.
“When a news event breaks, wherever that might be, Orato’s journalist is there searching for someone who not only witnessed the event but survived it.”
Orato journalists interview the eyewitness of a newsworthy event to better understand what they saw, felt, endured and, most importantly, learn and report how they overcame those challenges and survived it to tell their story. Then we publish the account of that newsworthy event, in the first person, along with the journalists notes and biographical information about the interview subject to give our readers a relatable understanding.
We call this first-person news reporting, and it’s designed to give people a unique but reliable and trusted source for verified stories, while at the same time foster empathy and understanding for those directly impacted by these newsworthy events. To illustrate the compelling nature of this style of content, we’ve already published nearly three thousand stories from around the world which can be freely viewed at Orato.world.
The Perilous Impact of Social Media
Democracy cannot survive without truth and, despite appropriating most all the advertising revenues that journalism’s media players relied on to survive, Big Tech isn’t in the least bit interested in prohibiting or curtailing misinformation. For social media sites, profits are infinitely more important than the chaos and havoc they sow or create.
What happens on profit-driven social media platforms is more than just a matter of company policy. The prevalence of false information on social media and ease with which it can proliferate have helped fuel division and violence in the United States and around the world as we all witnessed on January 6 2021 on the US Capital attack.
Their addictive algorithms are so effective in supercharging posts and encouraging ethnic cleansing that Meta was ordered to pay reparations to the Rohingya people after armed attacks, massive scale violence, and serious human rights violations forced hundreds of thousands of Rohingya to flee their homes in Myanmar’s Rakhine State in August 2017. Nearly 1 million people were forced to find safety in Bangladesh – home to the world’s largest refugee camp who are described by the UN as one of “the most
persecuted minority in the world.”
More recently, the UK was swept by violent anti-immigration protests and riots after a Welsh man stabbed and killed three girls, under ten years of age, at a dance class rehearsing for an upcoming Taylor Swift concert. In a moment of sobering realization, the real trigger for the violence was not the crime itself but the misinformation spread by far-right groups and activists like Tommy Robinson.
The world’s richest man, Elon Musk’s social media site X (Twitter) has added to our dystopian world by giving a megaphone to bigots, restored the accounts of banned racists and turned his social media site into a white-supremacist website since he acquired it in 2022. He recently spent weeks enthusiastically endorsing Germany’s far-right political party whose members have documented ties to neo-Nazis prior to their most recent general election.
Musk himself, not too long ago, endorsed posts about the racist “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory. And more recently performed a Heil Hitler salute, not once but twice on television, during his speech in Washington DC, following Trump’s inauguration.
It is still early days in Musk’s attempted global far-right revolution but the recent shocking Trump declaration that Musk will be policing his own conflicts of interest in his undefined and unconfirmed senior role in the cabinet really raised the stakes on the danger he represents and the long-lasting damage he is inflicting.
The fact that Musk, the world’s richest man, has been able to get as far as he has in terms of meddling in the internal politics of the US and other major developed countries is very troubling. Considering all the chaos he’s already sown and the destruction he’s left in his wake, only time will tell what Musk will evolve into once he becomes the first proposed trillionaire, a frightening milestone predicted to occur by 2027.
Complicity of the Wealthy and Their Obedience to Power
In President Biden’s recent Farewell Address to the Nation, he warned US citizens;
“Americans are being buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation enabling the abuse of power. The free press is crumbling. Editors are disappearing. Social media is giving up on fact-checking. The truth is smothered by lies told for power and for profit. We must hold the social platforms accountable to protect our children, our families, and our very democracy from the abuse of power.”
The recent actions from established US legacy media and others after Trump won in 2024 was characterized not long ago as anticipatory obedience. And that was recently illustrated when the billionaire owners of the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times prohibited their editorial boards from publishing an endorsement of Vice-President Kamala Harris and began dictating what they will and won’t allow in their editorial opinion columns to be published.
Big donor’s recent fawning display and desire to get on Trump’s good side to curry favor displayed a new milestone in anticipatory obedience. The world’s first true TV reality Commander-in-Chief who became the most powerful man on the planet by recently winning his second term as US President, became quickly awash in cash by the billionaire feeding frenzy of money being donated to his inauguration after Trump won the general election in 2024.
As Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explained; “I think what makes this go-around with Trump so much more dangerous than the first time around is that he is much more normalized this time around than he was the first time. The first time, people were really on edge. They were on guard. They were very vigilant about any break that he would have with these norms. This time, the norms are becoming him. The norms are embracing him by participating now in this (way) when they (millionaires and
billionaires) wouldn’t have participated in the past.”
Those who anticipate the demands of a repressive government and submit to demands before they are made are simply teaching “power” what it can do. Had the wealthiest withheld obedience in advance, the autocracy that now controls almost every aspect of their lives and their businesses would have not been constructed.
When rich, powerful people act like that, they give up the opportunity to prevent dictatorships. And this is why the silence on the part of US Republicans and the desire on the part of various companies to roll over and show their belly or run to Trump and kiss the ring and show their acquiescence to his authority is really damaging — not only for the people whom those actions immediately affected but to the civic fabric of democratic countries generally.
When people see that other people — who are wealthy and more powerful than them —are already giving up, it is easier to say: Oh, it’s all over. What is there to do? Seeing people stand up and speak up for democratic values to do the right thing matters not only for the individual people that those folks might be protecting, but because it gives others courage. It matters because it shows that if you do not agree with what is happening in your country, you’re not alone.
The Urgent Need for a Non-profit, Verifiable Global New-media Venture is Now
We must all be alarmed and moved enough to push back against the slippery slope of the authoritarianism that is spreading and taking over. We must be brave, courageous and willing to stand up, tell the truth and be honest because there is a place in all our lives for basic compassion, empathy and understanding.
The biggest moral question is not the decisions we made at the ballot boxes but how we confront the crisis that is currently unfolding before our eyes. It’s time to act now to save our democracy because, if we don’t, we won’t have a democracy left to save. They must include real tangible steps right now because time is running out.
To harness our interdependent digital connectivity, establish this nonprofit global media venture, not for fame or fortune, but to provide people, no matter who they are or wher they exist, a safe resilient and inextinguishable platform in which to learn, exchange and share information based on verifiable truth and facts for our current and future generations.
It is in this perilous dystopian landscape that we now all live in that we have the unique and timely opportunity to establish the International Media Broadcasting Corporation that prioritizes truth over propaganda to celebrate our shared values. To challenge conservative right-wing ideology by offering intelligent programming based on a given set of facts on a new social media and dynamic news dissemination platform.
It will not be easy to establish a global, self-sustaining International Media Broadcasting Corporation for the sole benefit of humanity but with enough determination, tenacity and support we will prove that yes, it is possible to create a successful media venture on sound moral values. A media venture that will always adhere to a sense of facts and values, not for power or profit, but to stand as a bulwark against the insatiable thirst unscrupulous and immoral leaders have for money, power and greed. Some people really value wealth, power, money and control; while others value new experiences and treating people with respect and dignity based on the belief that every human has value.
We must hold on to the existence of fact, the existence of the record, the existence of truth, even when institutions that are ostensibly meant to back you against these figures of aggressive unreality are no longer supporting you and are flawed in their design.
Introducing International Media Broadcasting Corporation’s Vision and Mission
While we have yet to enjoy the desired traction on Orato.world’s current site, I will not give up trying to establish the International Media Broadcasting Corporation (IMBC) as global media venture dedicated to humanity and the sovereign right that every human being should be entitled to tell their story.
Independent of race, colour, creed, nationality, gender, political affiliation, theological conviction or sexual orientation, IMBC’s content will be curated to offer the world a safe place in which to inform, educate and entertain all those who want to learn their ‘truth’, as they witnessed it, firsthand. This global media venture will encourage discussion, debate and the exchange of ideas, based on facts, so we can all share knowledge with others and speak to all those who dream and strive about a fair and free society.
Most importantly, whether self-taught in life’s school of hard knocks or scholastically trained in an ivy-league academic institution, IMBC will be a media property where everyone can count on the veracity of the story told and the content found therein.
Proposal
Creating and establishing the International Media Broadcasting Corporation and making it sustainable is a venture which will require plenty of human and financial capital.
This appeal is designed to attract the attention of strategic partners and contributors who may be able to assist in establishing this global media venture. Whether you are a media influencer, a high-profile public servant, a celebrity, enjoy the benefits of financial independence or are well connected with those who’ve achieved such status, there is something you can do to help. Whether it be as a financial contributor, social influencer, media-professional collaborator, multimedia producer, board member or active contributor in programming, please fill out the form below so we can discuss this project and your participation in a meaningful way.
We seek strategic partnerships to scale our platform and bring untold stories to life, leveraging your expertise, resources, and network while addressing pressing social issues. By partnering with us, you can help support this movement, leading the way in social impact and technological innovation.
It will take tens of millions of dollars to establish IMBC’s success but, subject to the reception of our launch in the online world, I am prepared to invest (another) million dollars (USD) to further seed this venture and help it succeed. I make this commitmentonly provided I am joined by others who are prepared to contribute financially or in-kind to this timely and valuable global endeavor to ensure that it is adequately capitalized.
In the event you also believe that the creation and establishment of an International Media Broadcasting Corporation for the benefit of humanity is not only necessary but critically important in these times of unbridled oppression and chaos, please be kind enough to reach out, refer or introduce this project to those who may be able to help, either financially or as a result of their influence or affiliations.
Thank you for your consideration and support for this initiative, I remain sincerely,…
