I want to be paid for publishing stories

How to be engaged and featured as a journalist/writer on orato.staging.tempurl.host

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: we value the critical role journalists play in a free democracy.

Our platform is dedicated to freelance journalists. Our anthology of verified, first-person stories was built by freelancers, and we always welcome additions to our growing and international family.

You can find more information, such as an in-depth style guide and payscale, on our website. Please note that the posted scale is a starting point only. If you have a story that you feel is worth more, we are open to negotiation based on market standards in your region.

Writing for Orato can be divided into three categories: pitching, claiming, and submitting

Pitch a story

All three functions live on our homepage’s navigation bar.

To pitch a story, navigate to Pitch Story. Please read the information on this page before moving forwards.

The form to submit your idea for consideration is below this text. For best results, please use a desktop or laptop computer to complete this process.

The form features multiple blank text and single-select fields. While it may appear overwhelming, the easy to use form ensures that you have all of the necessary information required to accurately pitch your story. This information is critical as it determines whether or not your pitch will be accepted by the editors.

There are four mandatory components to the form: a short content slug to provide an overview of the topic (ie. Poland abortion ban), an elevator pitch field wherein you provide information about the story and first-person angle, a category selection field, and finally your contact information. If you also intend to write the story yourself, please fill in the optional writer name and email fields.

Remember to be as clear and concise as possible in your elevator pitch. The best pitch tells the editors everything they want to know and leave them wanting more.

Claim a story

Our editors keep abreast of news and current events within their respective regions. When they see a story worthy of an in-depth first-person narration, it’s added to our Claim Story page.

From this page, you can scroll through our active and updated list of available stories.

Each available article has a photo used for illustration purposes only (you must provide a publishable photo with your submission), a summary of the story, a link to any relevant off-site coverage, and a large red “claim story” button.

To claim a story, click the red button and enter your information in the form. Depending on your browser settings, the form may appear in a new tab.

If this is your first story for Orato, you will receive an email to complete our writing assessment. Follow the prompts to complete this short, 10-minute evaluation. Questions marked with a red asterisk are mandatory, while others, such as the requested link for previously published content, are optional. Our editors will review your submission soon.

Once you successfully complete the assessment, you are ready to write for Orato.

Submit your story

Your pitch was approved, your claim was accepted, and your story was written. Now it’s time to submit your piece for publication.

The submit draft form asks you to fill in the story slug (ie. Poland abortion bans), provide your full name and email as well as a short bio to run alongside your article, write a suggested headline, attach your story, photos, and any multimedia assets, and provide links to your social media profiles should you wish to share that information with our audience.

Please ensure that you only submit a story after it has been claimed or your pitch was approved by the editors.

After your story has been submitted, our team will be in contact with any further questions, feedback, and payment.

Thank you for writing for Orato World Media. Together, we’re working towards a brighter, more informed future.

Fields marked with a red asterisk are mandatory. Unmarked fields are optional.
