About the opportunity
The Marketing and Social Media Intern will be a creative, passionate, out-of-the-box thinker who is tenacious, resourceful, and tech-savvy. Orato seeks candidates who are inherently passionate about the work they do, can balance patience with a proactive attitude, and are adept at multi-tasking. Responsibilities are geared toward real-world experience and resume-building work opportunities that will benefit the intern and Orato World Media. These include:
• Support in content development and posting on various social media
platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, etc.
• Tracking down and contacting potential interview subjects identified by the
Orato team and connecting them to an Orato journalist or staff member along
with any background and context you’ve collected to help prepare them for
the subject interview.
• Researching and recommending potential story subjects, influencers, and
possible high-profile personalities, so long as they meet the Orato story
mandate.
• Fact-check stories to support the veracity of the news event and to provide
background context.
• Updating the database as required.
• Ensure that you meet all regular and recurring deadlines.
• Review and edit work for editorial approval.
• Adhere to the ethical code of the profession.
• Create trustworthy relationships with contacts and sources for the proliferation of the Orato brand and for future research.
• Stay up-to-date on the latest global news and world events by monitoring
news media, journalism sites, opinion pieces, and the evolution of social
media practices.
• Help to extend payment to journalists and support other administrative tasks
as necessary.
Technical qualifications
• At least two years of education/experience in an accredited collegiate
journalism, marketing, or communications program is preferred.
• Demonstrated skills in Digital Marketing and/or Social Media Marketing
• Knowledge of and/or the ability to quickly learn AirTable and Slack platforms.
• Competent and fluent in speaking and writing in English; additional fluency in
languages other than English will be looked upon favorably.
• Understanding of APA Style and excellence in proofreading.
• Advanced analytical skills and understanding of web development could be
advantageous.
• Must possess a passion for journalism and the role it plays in a free society.
• Excellent online research skills.
