On the anniversary of October 7, we demand #GlobalCooperationNow!

With wars raging, the countries of the world no longer live in silos as we once did. We understand that the devastation and pollution of a nation an ocean away, directly impacts all of us. Global citizens with common values continue to become less tolerant of mass death and destruction on our shared planet. We know unfettered conflicts create migration crises, disrupt the world’s economies, exacerbate global warming, and stoke the flames of hatred at home.

This Op-Ed is one in a series aimed at shedding light on critical global issues that demand urgent attention and address a spectrum of challenges affecting us all, emphasizing the need for collective action and support. By fostering awareness and encouraging collaboration, the writer hopes to inspire positive change and contribute to a more compassionate and equitable world as we cover the multitude of issues that impact our global community.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists descended upon the unsuspecting citizenry of Israel, kicking off a conflict that continues to rage and is quickly descending into a regional war, threatening the entire Middle East. Life itself pays the ultimate price. The suffering and death of innocent human beings and the degradation of the natural environment become the collateral damage of political and ideological hatred. Such casualties remain quantifiable.

In the last 365 days, health authorities estimate that some 41,000 Gazans perished amidst rockets and gunfire, and nearly two million became internally and externally displaced. Food shortages, disease, and pollution dominate and run rampant in the Gaza Strip.

In Israel, Hamas murdered around 1,200 citizens last year on October 7 and took another 251 hostages. Meanwhile, hundreds of missiles continue to fly toward Israel intent on destruction by Iran, the Islamic Republic, and its proxy armies. If not for a sophisticated missile defense system, Israel and its population of nearly 9.5 million could very well have been wiped from the face of the earth.

Meanwhile, on Israel’s northern border, the Iranian-backed terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon has launched some 10,000 rockets at Israel since October 8, 2023, to which Israel responded, killing 250 Hezbollah terrorists, including 20 commanders. Estimates say 2,000 have died in Lebanon and another million are displaced in the border region, including over 200,000 Israelis.

The silent sufferer which has no voice is our earth. Forty-two tons of debris now contaminate Gaza. Sanitation systems collapse as sewage seeps into the Mediterranean. Agriculture has been destroyed and CO2 emissions skyrocketed. Meanwhile, destroyed weapons in Lebanon create toxic seepage.

The insanity MUST stop: a unified global nation can rise

This kind of horror repeats itself in Europe, as Russia pummels Ukrainian cities and rural landscapes. Equally as horrific, in the Sahel of Africa, conflict in Sudan and adjoining countries kills and displaces people in unprecedented numbers.  Either as a result of tragedy-fatigue or lack of interest, this horrific conflict barely gets mentioned in the news or is spoken about. These conflicts represent only a fraction of those currently being waged globally.

No policy or plan by politicians in a single country can stave off this horror. We can no longer afford to fight such massive wars, using advanced weaponry and technologies of mass destruction, over ideological differences. We have seen enough. The time has passed to debate ideology. Rather we must create a global nation of our own and demand significantly more adept international communication, cooperation, and collaboration.

We know it’s possible. In 1949 countries around the world established the North American Treaty Organization (NATO) to protect the freedom, security, and sovereignty of member nations. Dozens of countries boast membership in the International Court of Justice. And the United Nations, in the framework of the Convention on Climate Change, has held more than 30 COP conferences to address the environment.

Communicate, cooperate, collaborate: a demand for change

Yet here we are. In 2024, the Global Peace Index reports that we have reached a crossroads around the world. Fifty-six conflicts rage, with 92 countries involved, the most since World War II. The systems are failing. Meanwhile, the promotion of hate, the advancement of divisive policies, and the demonization of “others” ascends politicians to power while tearing apart the fabric of civility amongst populations.

For the sake of humanity and the fragility of our planet – independent of race, color, gender, creed, age, political persuasion, religious affiliation or sexual orientation – we need a movement dedicated to advancing the best interest of humanity, individually and collectively.  Addressing global issues country by country has not yielded a higher quality of life or a more peaceful earth.

Directly or indirectly, humanity continues to be adversely harmed by climate change, the oppression and exploitation of women, child labor, world hunger, plastic waste, unregulated artificial intelligence, income inequality, exportation of raw ingredients that make up illicit drugs, money laundering, lack of a humane and global strategy for refugees, terrorism, anemic birth rates, pandemics, violations of data privacy, the decimation of journalism by the dissemination of misinformation and disinformation, and more.

Imagine a global movement, seeded by the participation of individual human beings, that forces elected officials around the globe to communicate, cooperate, and collaborate on practical and workable solutions to address the challenges we all face. Unless we coordinate our efforts to confront and overcome these threats, our adversaries – even biological ones – will win.

Join the movement: #GlobalCooperationNow!

Every day, at Orato World Media, we have the rare privilege of working with qualified journalists who interview subjects who experience newsworthy events first-hand, from every corner of the globe.  Equally important, our journalists verify the veracity of each story so you can be confident each published piece is a true reported event experienced by a real person.

When a news event breaks, wherever that might be, Orato is there searching for someone who not only witnessed the event but, more importantly, survived it. An Orato journalist interviews that individual in their own domestic language, so we can publish – in English and the subject’s native language – the account of their story. We call this first-person news reporting.

Every week we learn about world events and the way they affect individual lives. Day in and day out, our readers’ hearts are moved, and their souls are stirred.  Orato’s stories help us open our minds to the truth of our global society, and the impact world issues have on each of us, wherever we reside. We see the intense disparities from nation to nation and this compels us to pursue change.

At Orato World Media, we assert the following values, which the majority of humanity shares:

-Independent of age, gender, race, color, creed, religious conviction or sexual orientation; no one shall be oppressed or exploited.
-Every human will have the sovereign right to choose what they can do with their bodies.
-Every human being will have the right to speak their truth without undue influence.
-We will accept indisputable facts so we can make decisions based on those facts.
-No one shall be entitled to intentionally disseminate misinformation or disinformation.

A call to action: #GlobalCooperationNow!

Orato harnesses the power that we as individuals, who share common values, collectively possess and can wield by demanding our rights be heard. As engaged citizens around the globe, we can use our collective voices to force elected officials to comply with our demand that they communicate, coordinate, and cooperate across nations to tackle critical issues.

As enough of us join this movement by, at minimum, signing Orato’s petition and, at best, making a donation to Orato, we will scale our movement. We will train generations of new journalists to interview subjects and write first-person stories out of true verified events; and to publish our content in more languages.

As enough of us join, we will press elected officials and demand they take action on issues that threaten us all as part of a global community committed to lasting change.

As enough of us join, we will wield our power to boycott those corporate entities who only exist for profit and power at the expense of our rights.

As men, women, and children around the world become aware of and join our global movement to protect the sovereign rights of every living soul who shares these values, we can become a nation of change. Together, we can advance solutions that represent and celebrate the sovereign rights we are entitled to as sentient individuals, contributing to a thriving planet.

There are dozens and dozens of for-profit social media sites which have garnered billions of followers. Orato World Media Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit entity, dedicated to the betterment of humanity and without the motivation of profit or fame, our mandate will never change. Our goal – to inspire a global movement of collective action – begins by garnering your support. Sign up and pledge today.
